Hello. I am researching my husband's family history and found, online, the record of an ancestor's baptism at St. John's in 1848. Strangely, the exact record also appears in the records of St. James the Great. Can you tell me why that would be? It is wonderful to be able to see these actual records as it makes the people concerned very much more real.

Good afternoon & a happy New Year (in anticipation)! I write to request a favour if at all possible, from someone with access to the church of St John. I am researching my husband's family & understand that some of his ancestors lie in a vault within the church, the family being that of the Dixons (& there are Frodshams in that vault too, I believe.) I was hoping that someone might be able to furnish me with a transcript of the memorials on that vault & maybe a photo. We live far from London & have no immediate plans to visit. I look forward in anticipation that someone may be able to help us. Kind regards Sue Gorton

As one of your former Directors of music and bell ringers (How Steve ever put up with me I shall never know!) It was great to see your new web site. My son was born on Christmas day in the Hommerton and baptised here. God bless you all.

I looked you up after reading John Pridmore's book, to see what progress has been made, and I was very impressed. What imaginative names for the children's groups! It seems as iff the tradition of making children welcome is being carried on. Thank you for some inspiring ideas for a Methodist at a recently refurbished church, where we are trying to reach out to the community. Incidentally, I too had ancestors living in Hackney; in 1860.

St John's is an imposing church with a beautiful interior and we think it would be a shame to replace the existing pews with the new ones proposed.
